chedder cheese, whole wheat waffles

Yes, please.  With butter…and bacon.  Maybe even a little syrup?  Yes.

This is so simple, really any old waffle mix or recipe will do.  Just throw your cheese of choice on top.  I prefer this recipe because it is easy and buttery.  Seriously, carbs, butter and cheese, it’s a perfect combination.  Oh, and there’s whole wheat involved, so it’s healthy, right?

1 cup whole wheat flour

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon salt

4 teaspoons baking powder

2 Tablespoons sugar

2 eggs

1 1/2 cups warm milk

1/3 cup butter, melted

1 teaspoon vanilla

lots of grated chedder cheese (about 3 1/2 cups total)


In a large bowl, mix together flour, salt baking powder and sugar; set aside.  In a separate bowl, beat the eggs.  Stir in the milk, butter and vanilla.  Pour the milk mixture into the flour mixture; beat until blended.

Generously grease preheated waffle iron, particularly the top half.  Ladle the batter into the waffle iron, grab a handful of grated cheese and place directly on top.  Cook the waffles until golden and crisp.  Serve immediately.
