Salty and sweet. Crunchy and melt-in-your-mouth. Peanut butter and chocolate. Dangerous and delicious (you know what I mean). One little bite, so much to experience. Why did I wait so long to give these a try?? A perfect treat to share with a large group of people that you love a whole lot, or to share with yourself on a self-indulgent sweats and sofa sorta day. Yum and yum.
Peanut Butter Pretzel Bites
recipe courtesy Foodaphilia
Calorie estimate: 4,000 – 5,000 for complete recipe (depending upon dipping chocolate and pretzels used, etc.)
Yield 60 – 80 pretzel bites
Ingredients
1 cup creamy peanut butter
2 tbsp softened butter
1/2 cup powdered sugar (maybe more)
3/4 cup brown sugar (maybe more)
Pretzels
1 bag semi-sweet chocolate chips
Directions
Combine peanut butter and softened butter in a large bowl with a fork or whisk, or in a stand mixer. Add the sugars and mix to combine. At this point if the filling will roll easily into balls without sticking to your hands you’re ready to go. If not, add a little more of each sugar until you reach a consistency that is easy to roll (I used about 3/4 cup of each sugar).
Use a teaspoon measure to scoop the filling. Roll each portion into a small ball, then sandwich them between two whole pretzels. When all the balls are rolled and successfully sandwiched, stick the whole tray in the freezer for about half an hour.
Pour the chocolate chips into a microwave safe bowl and heat at 30-second intervals, stirring occasionally until completely melted. Remove the pretzel sandwiches from the freezer and quickly dip each half-way into the melted chocolate. Return to the tray and repeat with remaining sandwiches. When all are dipped, return the tray to the freezer to set up completely. Store the sandwiches in the refrigerator until serving time.
Oh man!! I have to make these!! It looks like a buckeye sandwiched between pretzels and dipped in chocolate! I have to make these! Yum!! 🙂
Yes! That’s a perfect description. My good friend from Ohio State introduced those little gems to me 10 years ago, delish!!
you have made day and buckeyes are delish!
Wow! All of my favorite ingredients in one bite! 🙂
This is so creative and delicious looking.
:oP~~~~~ Drooling
LOL the estimate calories made me laugh so hard. These look so good though!!!!
Actually, a more reasonable estimate would be closer to 3500 – 4000 calories for the whole recipe, meaning only about 63 calories per pretzel bite, assuming u made 60 bites. I have an app on my iPad for calories and the like, and it’s very accurate.
Really? Hmmmm, they were hard to estimate due to the dipping chocolate and pretzel variables. I will lower the total. Good thing it says, “estimate!” We’ll just assume the best, haha.
Oh wow!!!! I am going to make these to take to work. They look so good!!
Yes, they’re good to share with a crowd!
Well it looks like I am going to be 5,000 calories heavier. These look delicious!
I like your honesty, it’ll totally be worth it!
3500 calories is a pound of fat, friends 🙂
Well…it takes 3000 calories burned to lose a pound so I can eat the whole batch for only a couple extra pounds, right?
I saw this via Peanut Butter and Co.on Facebook. I hopped right over to the store and bought all the ingredients to make this weekend. I’m so excited. Thanks for posting.
Wow, so glad to hear it, enjoy!!
those look so fun! peanut butter, pretzels and chocolate- nice combo
I am planning to make these for my sister’s upcoming bridal shower. This will be great. I’m wondering, how far in advance can I make them? Can I make them and freeze them? Or will they keep in the fridge for a week? Thanks for the great recipe.
I really, truly think they would be just fine in the freezer or fridge after a week as long as they were stored in air-tight container, but can’t say 100% since I’ve never tried it. Good luck and enjoy!!
I have successfully kept ‘buckeyes’ which is basically same recipe p-nut butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, butter…dipped in choc for a month in air tight container in fridge….I don’t think it will be a problem….I wouldn’t store in freezer….
I made these a few weeks ago and kept them in the fridge for about 1 week, they honestly didn’t last longer because we ate them but 1 week worked. They are very soft if not in the fridge so I would actually recommend storing in the fridge to maintain structure.
Oh my goodness these look amazing!
These look incredibly satisfying! Sometimes the best things are just simple much like the chocolate chip cookie, the peanut butter cup, the classic vanilla cupcake… the list goes on!
Made it with my preschoolers and husband this afternoon and it was a huge hit. Was tight on time so subbed in honey/maple syrup for the confectioner’s sugar and brown sugar. My youngest couldn’t stop eating the peanut butter mixture straight but I recommend it highly as a family cooking project!
How fun, Laura! Isn’t that pb mixture to die for!?
Heavenly! Sweet, salty, crunchy, chocolatey & creamy. It couldn’t get much better! Gorgeous photos.
I made these tonight and they are so so so good. I think I ate half the peanut butter ‘batter’ before I could even put it between the pretzels. Who knew that brown sugar, powdered sugar, butter, and PB mixed together would be such a heavenly combination?! Not to mention adding the pretzel and chocolate! I will be bringing these to every event in the future! Easy to make and oh so delicious.
I noticed that someone put maple/pancake syrup in instead of confectioner powder. If you are diabetic or watching calories, instead of the sugars use sugar free pancake syrup and dip in melted sugar free chocolate chips which are really good!
I’m a lover of salty sweet food, needless to say I’m hooked !!! your cookies are so creative & flavorfull !!
I made these and they turned out wonderfully! I posted them on my blog today and linked back to you! 🙂
Yay, so glad they turned out well for you, Ani!
Peanut butter, pretzels, and chocolate are just amazing together! Thanks for the recipe – it sounds delicious!
I JUST finished making these! My boyfriend and i tried the first one and had such a hard time not eating the rest. These are so amazing!
So creative and delicious looking… might have to give these a whirl.
Is there any good reason not to dip them completely in chocolate (perhaps one half at a time)?
None that I can think of! Just depends on your PB – choco ratio preferences. Give it a whirl and let us know how it all turns out!
These look very mouthwatering, I would be doing this on the weekend and hope they would look as nice as yours. Thanks for this share
OMG
I made these for my fiance for Father’s Day and he loved them. I loved them! One great thing is that they are NO BAKE! I didn’t realize until I got into the recipe. I didn’t even have to turn my oven on. Yay! Also, I tried using natural peanut butter and I wouldn’t suggest it because it was super sticky. Probably go with the kind I don’t have to stir next time. GREAT RECIPE!
Okay, I am making these immediately. Chocolate and pretzels are my all-time favorite food.
OH I love me some sweet/salty snacks, and these look amazing! (found you via Pinterest btw!!)
I copy and pasted the recipe into an email to myself (easier to find that a bookmark) and going to make this soon. I LOVE peanut butter and pretzels but may just drizzle on chocolate instead of dipping.
These look amazing! I’m totally making these for a 4th of July party I’m going to! I was just wondering about how many of these does this recipe make? I’ll probably make a double batch anyways 🙂
I’m so sorry, I didn’t reply in time. I made them so long ago I have no idea how many they make. Did you make them? If so, what was the count?
Any word on how many this recipe makes??
I just put a batch in the freezer. I used “mini” pretzels (they’re about 1 1/2′ long) and made about 60.
Which is probably about how many I’ll eat today…
I was looking for something just like this to make for this weekend! I happened to stumble across this and I L.O.V.E. it! Can’t wait to try this weekend!
These look amazing
Love it!
Oh my days..! My tummy did a backflip at the picture! and it’s all “DO WANT!” 😐 I gotta make this..!
The 5,000 calories total makes me weary! Hopefully, I don’t eat the entire batch alone. lol I does look like it would go great in a party bag.
It is awesome i will try it and share it with my friends.
This looks very nice. I wonder how the flavors combine. We’ll make it tonight and see how it goes 🙂
i just died. these look not only adorable, but freeeaaaking delicious too!
I have a question, about how many servings would this recipe make? It looks easy enough to double, but I’m just curious. I am planning on bringing them to a picnic for my husband’s work! 🙂
I am sorry! It’s been awhile since I made these, but I do remember there were plenty. May want to double though, if there are leftovers I’m sure they will not be wasted!
Yum
Those looks incredible! 5000 calories for the recipe is a little intense but it won’t hurt to try it out once 🙂
I just found this recipe and made them up for a brunch I’m hosting tomorrow. I used a Tbsp cookie scoop and divided each scoop into 4 little balls. With this measurement, there are around 105 sandwiches. Thanks for the recipe. Can’t wait to serve them so they won’t be in my house for me to eat. 😀
sweet, salty & peanut buttery??? oh yes, sign me up!!! …5000 calories…that’s not bad for almost 3 days, right??? I mean…i’m sure i can justify something this great!!!
I just made these! I can’t wait to try them. I rolled a few in toffee chips after dipping them in the chocolate. I’ll let you know how they taste. 🙂
These were a HUGE hit at the BBQ! Everyone just raved over them! 🙂
And, the toffee chips are fabulous on them!!!!
I will definitely be making them again . . . and again . . . and again. 🙂
Oh my goodness, my daughter and I made these and took them to a church potluck. We got so many compliments on them. There is this one friend who keeps talking about them and is wondering when we will make them again.
Yay! I’m so glad you had success, took them to a church potluck myself just last week!
I’ve found a definite dish for our Halloween/Masquerade party!! Thanks a ton!!
I am totally going to make these for a Buckeye game day party! I always appreciate simple party snacks :]
Oh my goodness, these looks absolutely delicious! I can’t wait to make them. And devour them!
Here’s a recipe for some amazing healthy cookies! Hope you enjoy!

can’t wait to try this.
I am glad I stumbled to your blog, this is a great recipe!! I will make it for my youngest B-day coming soon 🙂 Thanks
Just Stumbled Upon you! Can’t quite figure out how to get my site stumbled! But these look d.lish! I love pretzels and chocolate in any combination. I made a candy on my site I call Britzel, it’s like a brittle but with chocolate, caramel, and pretzels. Came out super well and was perfect for the Football party I took it to! Can’t wait to explore your site more!
Sounds yummy, thanks for stopping by!!
really yummy recipes thnx for sharing
Cute cute cute! 🙂 …Susan
Yum Yum Yum! I saw this last night and 1st thing this morning I went to the store and bought all the ingredients. I let my 3 year old help me with them and we just had a blast. They turned out wonderfully. I didnt realize I bought chunky peanut butter and they were amazing. Thanks for sharing 😀
Excellent recipe and great pictures. I am going to make these next time the ladies of the Madison Scrabble Society stop by. Thanks
What a delightfully perfect little snack! Can’t wait to try these 🙂
Do you think I could dip them in almond bark instead of chocolate? I want to dye the bark red to match my team colors for tailgating. Also, I found football-shaped pretzels at Wal-Mart!
How fun! Football shaped pretzels, I’ll have to try that for sure. I think the almond bard would be great, let me know if you try how it works 😉
Thank you for this recipe! I hope you don’t mind that tweaked it a bit and added a layer of caramel before the chocolate! Yum!
They look wonderful :o)
Pretty much everything I love wrapped into one — sweet, salty, crunchy + includes chocolate and peanut butter. Yummy!
I’m doing a special feature on my blog this month called 30 days of desserts which each day I feature a different dessert from different bloggers featuring their recipe and blog (etsy shops, fb pages, etc…). I came across your blog and was wondering if you would be interested in participating! Just let me know!
Thanks,

Sure, I’m glad you’ve enjoyed a recipe enough to share! Good to hear from you.
Oh man…they looked great until I saw the total calories. Maybe I’ll just pretend I didn’t see that! YUM!!
yummyyyy …. loved it!
My roommate made these and for the other half that’s left without chocolate, she melted butterscotch chips and dipped it. It made a hundred time better, and I didn’t even think that was possible.
yum, sounds good!
Wow! I just did them, I haven’t tasted them yet, but I’m preatty sure they’ll be magnificent!!!! who’d have guessed such an amazing combination!!! it’s perfect! thank you so much for the share!
Yummilicious! Mouth-watering! Gotta try making these. I will not eat them everyday, I promise 🙂 Just maybe every other day 🙂 Thanks or sharing!
now these look like something my son would love…so far away..can’t treat him to them..sighhh such is life
Looks good but I’m allergic to peanut butter… can you suggest any alternatives?
They make sunflower seed butter, if you can have that it would be worth a try:-) Hope it works for you.
I’m so sorry, I am very unfamiliar with allergies and no help at all! The sunflower seed butter sounds promising though.
I just made these tonight. So yummy! I did some with semi sweet chocolate and others with white chocolate. I also added some vanilla to the mix. Thank you so much for the great idea.
This is such a delicious idea! I was actually looking for something to make to bring to a game night tonight when I found this. It is very easy and low cost. The only thing I recommend is getting a friend to help, because making them gets a little tedious. I almost doubled the recipe, but I’m glad I didn’t bc the single recipe made 75 for me! Thanks for the recipe =]
I just made these using chocolate covered pretzels, results are delicious and it saves a step.
How long can these sit out for? Are they not good for goodie bags that will be passed out? I guess my question is do they need to be refrigerated?
I think the more sugars you add the firmer they will be at room temperature.
Just made these yesterday and they are fabulous! Do you think they will keep okay until Christmas?
I think so if you freeze them in airtight container, but can’t say 100%, never lasted that long in my house 😉
I ended up using about a cup of extra powdered sugar – I just could NOT get mine to ball-rolling consistency. But once I got that figured out it was smooth sailing and I have a batch in the freezer. I don’t know how I’m going avoid eating all of the myself 🙂
That looks incredibly tasty! They look easy to do as well. Will have to try them out next party!
I have made these! They are so delicious!
These are simple to make, do not leave a big mess to clean up, and require few ingredients. They look cute and taste great! I am going to be putting them in clear bags for gift-giving so I hope they don’t melt in the bag!
I just so happen to have half a bag of pretzels leftover from a little party we had last week so these will be great to make up. I’ve always loved buckeye balls but sometimes they can be SO sweet–these look perfect because the salty balances out the sweet. Can’t wait to try them–yum!
Someone at work made these today and they are truly YUMMY! If you have a peanutbutter lover in you house–a MUST make! Better than a Reeses
Made these for Christmas this year. Everyone LOVED them and they were sooo easy to make.
Just made them for a New Years party tomorrow. I sampled one (or two) and they are delicious!
Hello!
How long do these pretzels keep fresh? How do I store them to keep them fresh? Thanks!
Around the holidays I made them and froze them in an air tight container for a week and they were still yummy!
Delicious!
I want to send these to my boyfriend for Valentines Day via USPS. Think they will go the distance?
I think if packaged securely they’d still be delicious after 2 – 3 days, but can’t say for sure from experience. Good luck!
Hi! I have these setting in the freezer right now! So excited!! In the batch that did not fit on the tray (about 10) that were on their own plate, I added a bit of sea salt on top on the chocolate. Well see if it was a good decision or not! Thanks for sharing!
These look great
these were STUPIDLY good!!
These are a pregnant woman’s dream… Yummmmmmy… I cannot wait to try them! YAY!
Just made these and dipped them in white chocolate because that’s what I had on hand. It made 76 sandwiches. I used the smallest Pampered Chef scoop and then cut each of those balls in half. Easy and delicious! Will definitely be making these again as my family and I all love sweet/salty combinations. Thanks for the great recipe!
That’s Jennifer, not Jennifer!
Oh my gosh, I look like a ding dong! Was trying to correct my name misspelling from the first time and goofed again!
The look so good
Yum yum
just made these with nutella instead of p. butter…delish!
Here ya go
Just made these for my daughter’s volleyball team using Wilton’s melting chocolate. So yummy!!
I am making these now and my peanut butter mix is pretty “gritty” from the brown sugar. Is it suppose to be like that?
Yes, it is a bit gritty. If you don’t like that, you might want to try using a larger portion powdered sugar and less of the brown sugar.
New fan, and I LOVE these! I would love to feature them on my blog (www.saucypants.com/blog)! Please let me know how I can get a hold of you :-). You can email me at kristi {at} saucypants {dot} com!
Yummy! I made this it’s sooo good!! We only had mini pretzel sticks and we had no chocolate chips, so we dipped the pretzels in this heavenly deliciousness then covered in a little bit of Nutella. It was SO good! Do you know how I would be able to cut this mixture so I have just enough for me? I am in the mood for some right now but I only want like one serving.
I am thinking about a twist on this…..what if you were to crush up the pretzels, roll the balls in them, an then dip either halfway or all the way in the chocolate. It would be kind of like a fererro rocher…only cheaper! 🙂
sounds good, let me know if it works out!
i made these!! they are good!!
Delicious and very easy to make……..
I mistakenly used granulated sugar instead of powdered…the granules would be there anyway with the brown sugar, right? The mixture still tastes delicious!
Yes, there are still granules, but I’m sure you had a lot more. Still, the flavor should be the same, and that’s what really counts. So glad you enjoyed them!
Made this the other day! I got a whole lot of positive comments. The only adjustment i made was i used milk chocolate for the dipping process
Yum, I usually like milk better than dark, but was it too sweet?
OH MY! Am going to bring these to my fam for Easter…maybe Easterize them a bit…they look amazing!
